This is for the purpose of undertaking remedial works which include footpath & road closure, steel work repairs etc, please see notice below:

Notice – Suspension of Navigation – Hall Bridge, Well Creek, Upwell PE14 9EW

March Town Bridge

Works will only take place during the working week, so there will be weekend access to FDC’s Mooring’s Facilities Block. In the unlikely event of a weekend closure, such notification will be given 48-36 hours in advance on our social media platforms @MLC1862 & Meta, and cascaded via our email network etc.

We want to ensure any works, if they happen this winter, do not impinge upon the start of the 2025 boating season.

****EXTENSION to BRIDGE CLOSURE****

A statement from Cambridgeshire County Council is as follows (received 24th March 2025):

“The extension of time required for the works at March Town Bridge are a result of safety concerns on site. Our contractor Milestone Infrastructure have a clear policy of “Working Safely or Not at All”, which is fully endorsed by Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC); this was called into practice during the works at March Town Bridge. Our priority is to ensure the safety of network users, the safe repair of CCC assets and to ensure that work is delivered to, or above, the required standard.

The additional 5 days of navigation closure will ensure that the structural repairs which are being undertaken are left in a safe, satisfactory, and suitable condition for this boating season. We appreciate the impact of navigational closures and have worked with all stakeholders to minimise impact without compromising safety. May we take this opportunity to thank all for their cooperation during these works.”

Marmont Priory Lock

NOTICE of Suspension of Navigation – Marmont Priory Lock – 29 Jan – 16 Apr 2025

Please be aware that we will need to enact an emergency closure of Marmont Priory Lock in the New Year. The date of closure is now confirmed as 29th January until 16th April 2025. The downstream gates that were installed last February have been problematic to operate and the various fixes that have been attempted during last season have only temporarily improved matters before the gate operation stiffened again.

The emergency closure will enable to contractor to dewater the lock, remove the gates, diagnose the problem, rectify and then reinstall the gates. I’m sure boaters, like we are, are keen for this to happen and hopefully resolved as soon as practical. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. A start date will be confirmed in due course.

  • If you are planning to enter or exit the Middle Level navigation via Stanground Lock or Salters Lode Lock, the Environment Agency have set up online calendars to host the latest navigation closures, restrictions and/or advisory notices on the Great Ouse (inc. Tidal Gt Ouse crossing) and Nene.
